Master Mateo’s works are gathered together in an exhibition in Santiago’s Pazo de Xelmírez

The Pazo de Xelmírez in Santiago de Compostela is housing Master Mateo, an exhibition on this brilliant artist’s work for the Cathedral of Santiago. Here, for the first time, the visitors will see sculptures that have been gathered together once again after the disappearance of the façade made by Mateo for the Portico of Glory. Outstanding among these sculptures is a male figure with a cartouche that was recently discovered during the restoration works on Bell Tower and which has been brought back to Compostela’s basilica after a temporary stay in the Prado Museum. This finding constitutes an extraordinary development in our knowledge of Master Mateo’s work in Compostela. Access to the exhibition is included in any of the modes of visit to the Cathedral of Santiago Museum. The exhibition will remain open until 23 February 2018.
